Miami Penthouse with a View

When a buyer from the Northeast purchased a former penthouse bachelor pad in Miami Beach, he turned to Robert Legere Design for a complete kitchen and bath overhaul in what will now be his primary residence. Having worked with the RLD design team on homes in Manhattan and Asbury Park, NJ, the client was confident in the team’s ability to create the sophisticated, contemporary home he longed for.

“They were the right design team because they have great taste, are in touch with the latest trends, allow the client to collaborate in the process and are cost conscious, if that matters to the client,” says the homeowner, noting that, while working with a design team in New Jersey and construction team in Miami could have caused issues, the team handled the project with grace and professionalism. “The team was very responsive and worked through each issue as it arose,” he says. “It was most important to me to work with people I trusted.”

The result is a modern masterpiece, at once relaxing and completely revitalized, a true reflection of the vibrant city itself.

“The Miami area definitely influenced the design,” the homeowner says. “Why live in Miami if you want a Colonial or Victorian? However, we didn’t go total Miami Beach. I wanted there to be warmth in the home.”

As such, the sleek, contemporary kitchen is softened by sand-colored cabinets and tiles on both the walls and floors. Sunlight from the adjoining balcony floods the kitchen and is intensified by reflective surfaces in the cabinetry and appliances.

The Robert Legere Design Team maximized the kitchen’s space with ample custom cabinetry and an L-shaped, multi-level island with seating that allows space for communal preparing and entertaining. The caged crystal chandelier completes the modern elegance of the space.

“The kitchen is my favorite,” the homeowner says. “It rocks. It’s functional and warm; one hundred times better than what was there before.”

Beyond the kitchen, the master bath was reborn as a peaceful, contemporary retreat. With city views filling the large windows, the pale greys and blues that weave throughout the crisp white backdrop of the master bath mirror the palette of the visible skyline.

A spacious, walk-in shower offers ample shelving while the soaking tub allows for relaxation. A pair of pedestal sinks and mirrors provide personal space while mosaic tile accents add a soft color highlight to the marble look of the walls. The homeowner’s own photography collection complements the soothing palette and adds a very personal touch.

Creating another unique space, metallic highlighted wallpaper pairs with a tiny mosaic scheme for an artistic finish in the powder room. The modern, wall-mounted sink lends a sculptural feel and completes the full-home feeling of art living in sync with life.

“The project came out great,” the homeowner says, noting that while the project was a true collaboration, “I depended mostly on them. I had some of my own ideas, which weren’t always right, but they were patient with me. I’m very happy.”
