The expansion and design of a waterfront property in Oceanport, N.J., was nearly complete in October 2012 when Hurricane Sandy struck and forced the homeowners and designers to hit replay. Undeterred, they began again and worked to create a safe haven that eliminated all traces of its stormy past and set the stage for a beautiful future.
The homeowners were interested in a design that conveyed a sense of relaxed coastal elegance, one that didn’t simply take advantage of the home’s beautiful water views but amplified them as well. The Robert Legere Design team selected furnishings, window treatments, wallcoverings, and accessories for the entire home that brought the colors and textures of nature inside and paired them with exotic woods and natural elements like capiz shells in the chandelier, abalone shells in the cocktail tables, and large blocks of coral scattered throughout the home.
The open floor plan of the living/dining area is ideal for entertaining, takes full advantage of the water views and creates a cohesive style and color scheme from space to space. Bedrooms were created to be peaceful sanctuaries with soft, textured headboards and wallcoverings and hand-painted design details that make each space truly unique.
Throughout the home, antiques and found pieces the homeowners discovered on their own are married with new products and textiles carefully selected by the design team to complement the items already in play. Special touches like the softly patterned wallpaper that lines the bookshelves in the living space, add texture and depth and lend a warm, finished feel to the home that not only survived the storm, but came back better and more beautiful than ever.
