Project Challenges
When a Northern New Jersey couple decided to make their weekend condo in Asbury Park their permanent home, they knew they would need to expand and upgrade the kitchen to better suit their passion for cooking and entertaining.

Topping the list of must-haves was ample space for storage, food preparation and gourmet cooking capability, as well as ample storage for the couples’ extensive wine collection. The kitchen area also needed to flow seamlessly into the adjacent living room area.

Project Solutions
The Robert Legere Design team reworked the footprint of the entire 1st floor of this two story duplex to create the largest kitchen area in the condominium development. By combining two areas originally designated for the kitchen and eat-in dining, the design team was able to add more than 100 square feet to the redesigned kitchen. Also, relocating the dining room with a beautiful butler’s pantry serving area adjacent was the final touch in making this the perfect entertaining space.

An oversized island now serves as the central point of the kitchen and provides ample space for prep-work, entertaining and casual dining. A bookshelf built into the island added the space necessary to house the homeowners’ extensive cookbook collection, an appliance garage houses the most often used kitchen prep appliances and gadgets and a large capacity wine refrigerator column provides the perfect climate for the couple’s extensive wine collection.

The vertical lines of the custom cabinetry and tile backsplash were selected to visually add height to the space and cylindrical lighting over the island continues the effect.

The result is one of a grand, gourmet kitchen that provided the homeowners with all the extras they desired and managed to make the overall floor plan feel more spacious in the process.
